Wikimedia Foundation: Donor Dinners
Intimate dinners to fund an endowment.
Link active · last checked September 22, 2026

The challenge
The Wikimedia Foundation was making its resources freely available to underserved communities worldwide, and needed significant new donors to support its endowment.
The insight
Major gifts start with a real conversation, not a pitch deck.
The solution
Grey Horse planned and produced a series of dinners in targeted US cities, each inspired by the character of its city, with guests drawn from a network of high-net-worth individuals. In Seattle, sixteen leaders from tech, media, business, venture capital, and academia joined executive director Katherine Maher at The Ruins, with a presentation on dreams and innovation to spark conversation. Several guests approached the Foundation afterwards.
